Introducing the Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice [DIAP] MFA program at The City College of New York, CUNY.



Develop a critical art practice using a research perspective to explore the relationship between technology and art. Students in the two-year MFA program in Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice will explore advanced strategies in digital, photographic, and interdisciplinary media from a conceptually-driven and research-based perspective. Drawing on diverse models of individual or collaborative practice, students will be encouraged to adopt open-ended and critical approaches to changing technologies.



This program promotes engagement with other disciplines in the humanities, arts and sciences, moving beyond the traditional studio environment to stimulate scholarly research and create an intellectual community of artists interested in cross-disciplinary practice.



Applications for the inaugural class will be accepted through February 1, 2011.



Open House: [DIAP] will host an open house for prospective students on Wednesday,

Artists’ Residency: To inaugurate the new [DIAP] MFA program, we are seeking an artist working in digital/interdisciplinary media for a three-month project residency from March 1-May 30th, 2011. A studio and one-time stipend of $1000 will be provided. Responsibilities include a public lecture and presentation of the artists’ project in an open studio at the conclusion of the residence. The artist-in-residence is required to spend at least 16 hours on campus each week during the residency. No formal teaching experience is required, but the ability to informally interact with students working in a broad range of media and techniques, which can include photography and new media, is desirable. The resident artist will have access to the City College Art Department facilities. Application deadline is January 15, 2011.
