Art Chicago and NEXT: Programming, Exhibitions and Sculpture

Art Chicago, the international fair of contemporary and modern art, returns April 30 – May 3, with an exciting series of exhibitions, programming and 150 premier galleries from around the world.

NEXT: The Invitational Exhibition of Emerging Art, concurrent with Art Chicago, features top galleries presenting curated and solo projects by emerging artists.

Onsite Exhibitions and Projects

- Partisan A presentation of works that explore social and political ideas selected by independent curators Rachel Furnari and Karsten Lund. The show includes works by Oscar Munoz, Brian Alfred, Paul Shambroom, Deana Lawson and Alex Soth.

- Public Sculpture Sculpture exhibited in interior and exterior public spaces of the Merchandise Mart. The section is organized by Chicago Sculpture International and includes art by Rodney Graham, Kiki Smith, Dzine, John Clement, Jun Kaneko and Dietrich Klinge.

- New Insight An exhibition of top MFA students from influential graduate art programs including Yale, Hunter, UCLA and SAIC, curated by Susanne Ghez, the Renaissance Society.

- Survey America A highlight of extraordinary works by artists living and working in the United States. Throughout the fair, works that are emblematic of major movements and developments in American art are marked with a special plaque.

- Converge Chicago: Contemporary Curators Forum: Production of the New Over 50 curators and museum professionals from top institutions engage in dialogue addressing new models, alternative strategies and expansive visions for working in changing times. The Converge Advisory Committee is composed of James Rondeau (Art Institute of Chicago), Franklin Sirmans (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), Anthony Huberman (Contemporary Art Museum, Saint Louis), Hamza Walker (Renaissance Society) and Julie Rodrigues-Widholm (Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago).

- Perspective Texas: A special outreach and programming focus, Perspective Texas will feature panel discussions on collecting art, and the cultural landscape in the Lone Star State.

- The Spanish Edge at NEXT: Young Spanish Art in Context A special gallery section featuring a selection of Spain's best galleries, including adhoc Galería, Galería Espacio Líquido, Galería Full Art, Galería Moisés Pérez de Albéniz, Galería Raquel Ponce, Galería Juan Silió, Galería SKyistheLimit (SKL) and Galería T20.
