Award Introduction

The Asia Art Award was designed to discover and cultivate the talents of young Asian artists and to provide them with a system that will support the international promotion and circulation of their art. This art competition aims to re-establish the status of Asian contemporary art and build the foundation for positioning Asian art professionals as art leaders of the future. Utilizing mass media, online, publication, etc., multi-faceted efforts will be made in order to promote better, active communication with the general public.

The Process of Judgment

Nominees are recommended by an international committee of 42 art experts from South Korea, Japan, China, India and South East Asia. The 42 nominated artists are then screened by a panel of 7 judges who narrow the list down to six finalists.

These six finalists will all take part in solo exhibitions that will tour three Asian nations and be part of an artist-in-residence program. The final recipient will be announced during the last collective exhibition and the award winner will receive full support for their art to enter the international art scene.

Exhibition

- Young emerging Asian artists will be introduced at this exhibition.
- The exhibition will be presented in a solo show format for in-depth articulation of their arts.
- The exhibitions are scheduled to tour South Korea, China and Japan.

Awards Ceremony

- Art performances incorporating mass media, moving images and visual art will be performed at the awards ceremony.
- 100 eminent international art leaders will be invited to the awards ceremony to begin a new page in networking within the international art world.

Broadcasting and Publication

- Utilizing mass media, online, publication, etc., multi-faceted efforts will be made in order to promote better, active communication with the general public.
- A video documentary based on the six finalists will be made.

Artist-in-Residence

- During a 3 month artist-in-residence program, the recipients will take part in various social projects in order to seek a role for contemporary art in the public sphere.

Forum
World's first multi-disciplinary contemporary art forum

50 to 100 eminent international art leaders will be invited to form the strongest human network infrastructure for contemporary art at our forum. The new social paradigm of 21st century society that developed from the advancement of digital technology and global capitalism instigated various changes and had a great influence on contemporary art. And this paradigm demands new aesthetic approaches and dialogues in response to these changes in global politics, economics and culture. What is more, as Asia becomes the new center of culture, art and philosophy, a leveled view of contemporary art is presented.

Art & Capital

To analyze the industrialization and the financial co-modification of Art and Capital within the contemporary art scene

Oriental Metaphor

To address and redefine the new definitions of Orientalism within the new social and economic paradigms of 21st century Asia

Art and Technology

To discuss the relationship between contemporary art and the changes in culture and society that followed the development of digital technology

Media Archive Network

To set an international and administrative standard for the archiving and preservation of media art, to find resolutions for various troubles occurring during the process of archiving and to research the development of joint projects for alternative visual images and production of new discourse through the network formed by the media art institutions of various nations.
