2015 차고 #1: 김지영 - 선할 수 없는 노래 ∙ 전시기간: 2015. 03. 06 – 2015. 03. 27 ∙ 관람시간: 오후 12시 – 7시 ∙ 전시장소: 사무소 차고 ∙ 웹사이트: www.samuso.org ∙ 주소: 110-210 서울시 종로구 율곡로 3길 74-3 선할 수 없는 노래 나는 바다 보는 것을 좋아했다. 월미도든 부산이든 가서 바다를 바라볼 때면, 나는 카뮈가 부럽지 않을 황홀함과 아찔한 해방감을 느끼곤 했다. 그러나 더 이상 그런 바다는 없었다. 영정 앞에 서서 국화 한 송이를 쥔 손끝만 바라봤던 것처럼, 오늘의 바다 앞에서 나는 굽어 서서 쉬이 고개를 들지 못했다. 떨군 귓가에 매섭도록 풍경이 울었다. 지워지고 있는 많은 것들이 아직 여기에 있다고. 쉼 없이 치열하게 말하고 있었다. 나는 용기를 내기로 했다. 진작에 내었어야 할 것이었다. 내게 염치란 것이 허락되어 있었다면, 마땅히 나는 고개를 들어 슬픔을 마주하고 부단히 진실을 호출했어야 했다. 온전한 손으로 다른 이의 떨어져 나간 살점을 말한다는 것은 얼마나 폭력적인가. 그러나 거둘 것은 시선의 폭력이 아닌 부동의 선함이었다. 칼자루를 휘두른 오늘을 목도하기 위해서 두 눈을 부릅떴어야 했다. 그날 이후 고여만 가는 오늘을 위해 필요한 것은 선한 눈물의 무력함이 아닌, 이기적인 용기의 최선일지도 모르는 것이다. 진실과 슬픔은 시혜라는 나무의 열매 따위가 아님에도, 시혜의 폭력으로 기울어진 윤리가 삼백 일이 넘는 거대한 오늘을 만들었다. 3월이 오면 사랑스런 나의 조카가 유치원에 들어가고, 사랑하는 친구의 아이가 태어난다. 여전히 울고 있는 풍경처럼, 나의 서툰 치열함이 그 울림에 더해져 기울어진 윤리에 균열을 낼 수 있기를. 그리고 부지런한 치열함으로 보다 많은 소리들이 더해져 그날을 가린 두터운 오늘을 부수고, 비로소 드러날 오늘을 간절히 고대한다. 작가 소개 1987년에 태어나 서울에서 활동 중인 김지영은 말할 수 없는 것에 대하여 소리로써의 말하기를 시도해오고 있다. 이는 삶의 배면에 자리하는 폭력에 대한 관심에서 비롯된다. 교역소(서울, 2014), 반지하(서울, 2014) 등에서의 프로젝트와 아마도 예술 공간(서울, 2014), 아트 스페이스 풀(서울, 2011) 등에서의 전시에 참여했다. 현재 한국예술종합학교 미술원 전문사 과정에 재학 중이다. 2015 CHAGO #1: Jiyoung Keem - Song unable to be good ∙ Period: March 6, 2015 – March 27, 2015 ∙ Opening Hours: 12 pm – 7 pm ∙ Venue: Samuso CHAGO ∙ Website: www.samuso.org ∙ Address: 74-3 Yulgok-ro 3-gil Jongno-gu Seoul 110-210 Korea Song unable to be good I used to like to look at the sea. Whenever I would go to Wolmido Island or Busan and gaze at the water, I would feel dazzled and a sense of release just as Camus would have felt. However that sea is no longer there. Similar to that moment when I was only able to stare at my fingertips holding a white chrysanthemums in front of the portraits of the deceased, I could not easily raise my head in front of the sea after the Sewol ferry tragedy. The wind-bell cried fiercely in my shameful ears; telling me that the many things erased from people's mind still remain here. I decided to be more brave. I should have been earlier. If I was allowed a sense of shame, I should have raised my head, face the sorrow and spread the truth. How violent it is to speak of someone's torn flesh with sound hands; however, it is the immobile good that should be withdrawn, not the violent voiceful. To witness the present that has wielded its sword, I should have confronted the day with both eyes wide open. Maybe it is selfish courage that is needed not the inability of kind tears after the Sewol tragedy. Although truth and sorrow are not just fruits of the tree of moral indebtedness, the violent ethics made from this moral indebtedness have made the present day. In March, my adorable niece will enter kindergarten and my dear friend will give birth. I eagerly hope that just like the crying wind-bell, my awkward fervor will add to that cry and bring a crack to the distorted sense of ethics. Moreover, I hope that my attentive willingness will add to more voices and destroy the present that has blocked the day of the disaster, and in the end I look forward to the present that will reveal the truth at last. About the Artist Ji-young keem, born in 1987, lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. She has been trying to bring voice to the things that cannot be spoken of. This originated from her interest in the violence situated in the rear side of life. She took part in projects such as Gyoyokso (Seoul, 2014), Banjiha (Semi-Basement), (Seoul, 2014), etc., and participated in several exhibitions at Amado Art Space/Lab (Seoul, 2014), Art Space Pool (Seoul, 2011) and more.
